Thousands more Cold Weather Payments are dropping into bank accounts as sub-zero temperatures continue to grip Britain. The special payments are made by the Government in a bid to help the most vulnerable people keep their homes warm amid the freezing conditions.
Much of the UK will barely get above 0C on Thursday, while it will be another sub-zero night for many heading into Friday. Around 95,000 eligible households in parts of the UK will receive a £25 towards the extra cost of heating their homes after the latest payments were confirmed.
Some areas have received their second payment of the winter, meaning they have had £50 worth of support in total. People eligible for Cold Weather Payments include those on Pension Credit, Universal Credit and Income Support.

They are designed to help residents most likely to be struggling to keep their homes warm. Payments are made locally depending on weather station recordings, rather than across the country as a whole.
Areas confirmed to be getting money include parts of Lancashire, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Cumbria. The latest payments were triggered by a seven-day period of sub-zero temperatures in these areas which started on January 4 and extends until Saturday.
People can check if their postcode is among those confirmed for payments here. There are an estimated 3.9 million people eligible for Cold Weather Payments under the DWP scheme and of these 1.2 million are in receipt of Pensions Credit.
