The Met Office has issued a weather warning for ice as temperatures in Wales are set to plummet. The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for ice which comes into place at 4pm on Wednesday, January 1.
The warning is set to last until 10am on Thursday, January 2, and covers the entirety of the UK. The forecaster said: “A band of rain, sleet and hill snow will clear southwards during Wednesday afternoon and evening. As skies clear in its wake, and with standing water following earlier rain in places, ice is likely to form quite quickly on untreated surfaces, leading to difficult travel conditions. Wintry showers are also likely along some north-facing coasts overnight, increasing the chance of ice in places.”
It warned that icy surfaces are likely to lead to some difficult travel conditions with a risk of injuries from slips and falls. A yellow weather warning for rain is due to come to an end in Wales at 11am on Wednesday however a warning for wind is set to remain in place until 3pm. To stay safe in icy conditions, the Met Office advises to take time when making a journey on foot. Give yourself extra time if making a journey by car or bus in case there are delas on the road.
