A pub in the heart of a Welsh town is set to be lost after centuries. A planning application has been submitted to change the use of the Cross Keys Hotel on High Street, Llantrisant, from a licensed premises to offices.
The Cross Keys has been a pub since the 18th century, with one of the earliest licenses for the building dating back to 1791. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter
The current tenants who run the pub are vacating the property on January 10, before the building is transferred to its new owners, according to an announcement on the Cross Keys’ Facebook page. The planning application submitted by the new owners is yet to be approved by the local council.
At present, on the ground floor there are bar areas as well as a kitchen and the top floor is occupied by a function room and living quarters. Under the planning application the space would be converted into general office and storage space if approved.
The application has been submitted by Town Garage (Rentals) LTD, a local vehicle repair shop who own premises next to The Cross Keys. If you would like to share your memories of the pub or your opinion on the planning application, you can contact us at ellie.gosley@reachplc.com
