Series with ‘lots of twists and turns’ could rival Harlan Coben Netflix series

A series that’s been dubbed as ‘absolute junk TV’ and yet is ‘binge worthy’ could soon become one of Netflix’s most viewed titles if current trends persist.

The Serial Killer’s Wife is presently available for streaming at no cost, but it might experience a surge in popularity on a competing platform, repeating history. All episodes are accessible on Channel 5’s My5 service. The series was initially launched via the Paramount+ paid service in 2023, but was added to the free-to-air broadcaster in 2024.

In the series, the narrative revolves around Beth, who resides with her husband Tom in the coastal town of Blackwater. Their idyllic life together is shattered when Tom is arrested for murder at his own birthday celebration. Although Beth initially provides him with an alibi, she starts to doubt her husband as more secrets begin to emerge. She becomes resolute in her quest to uncover the truth herself, reports the Daily Record.

The show is based on Alice Hunter’s book of the same name, which is the first in a series, followed by The Serial Killer’s Daughter and The Serial Killer’s Sister. The cast features Annabel Scholey, known for her roles in The Split and Rivals on Disney+. She is joined by Poldark’s Jack Farthing and Waterloo Road’s Angela Griffin.

One viewer simply described the series as ‘absolutely junk TV’, with many others noting that they quickly binged the show. Sharing their thoughts online, they said: “Very good drama, was expecting more episodes but if 2nd series comes out it might answer a few questions. Great watch great actors. Worth a binge watch. Excellent! Binge watched it! Lots of twists and turns.”

Another viewer commented: “Just finished watching series had an idea in third episode who it could be . Was absolutely shocked at beginning of episode four last one thought she needed locking up. But the twist was fantastic absolutely was not expecting that.”

A fan praised the series, saying it surpasses recent Netflix adaptations of Harlan Coben’s works: “Would definitely recommend! The serial killers wife it was exceptional. Thankfully after watching Fool Me Once and the Castaways which were both awful with terrible script and acting! Both so overrated!”

This reaction might have some viewers wondering if the series could follow a recent trend and be added to Netflix. It wouldn’t be the first series to transition from free-to-air TV to the streaming service. Previous Channel 5 shows have appeared in Netflix’s top ten charts after being added, even up to a year after their initial debut. Examples include dramas like The Cuckoo and Cold Call, as well as documentary series like My Wife, My Abuser Captured on Camera.

Should The Serial Killer’s Wife tread a similar path, it could potentially become a Netflix sensation if added to the streaming giant’s roster. However, given that the series was originally produced by Paramount+, its addition to Netflix isn’t guaranteed. That said, it’s not entirely out of the question either, as Paramount-produced films have frequently made their way onto Netflix.
