The pretty seaside commuter town 85 minutes from London overshadowed by its more famous neighbour

A pretty seaside town just over an hour from London is a gorgeous place to visit – or to settle down. The gorgeous town of Worthing has been named as one of the best places to live in the UK, due to its ‘coastal chic’ vibes and thriving indie arts scene.

According to lifestyle website Muddy Stilettos, Worthing is an “up and coming” area that actually is up and coming but is often forgotten about as it’s tucked in between Chichester and Brighton. But Worthing is a great place to live – or just to visit – as it’s right next to the beach, making a lunchbreak walk by the sea a reality for homeworkers.

Muddy Stilettos say there’s plenty to do and see in the town, and has a great foodie scene. The Crabshack, a family-run eatery, offers the best seafood on the coast, they claim – even better than Brighton’s offerings. There’s also sea views from Perch on the Pier, which offers light lunches and great coffee and cake.

The Royal Arcade is a great experience for window shoppers. Be prepared to stop at every shop along the Edwardian arcade of independent stores. You’re also not going to be stuck for things to do in Worthing, as there’s plenty of culture to enjoy.

The Art Deco pier, named Pier of the Year in 2019, is a great attraction, while the Highdown Gardens are a hidden gem to explore. There’s lots of community spirit in the town, from hosting its own version of Oktoberfest every year to Sunday cycling events along the promenade.

According to Muddy Stilettos, overall average price come in at £396,774. Flats are popular with prices hovering round £251,388, semi-detached homes go for £429,933, with detached homes fetching £598,189.

If you’re settling down with a young family, there are some great schools nearby. Little Rascals Preschool, Pumpkin Patch Nursery, and Reflections Nursery have all been awarded Outstanding by Ofsted, while Lancing College and Roedean are close by.

And best of all? It’s just 1 hour and 27 minutes on the train into London Victoria for those days when you have to go into the office. Brighton is just 10 miles away and 25 mins on the train and you’re also in close proximity to Gatwick.
