If the thought of returning to work after Christmas is leaving you feeling as wilted as the left overs there are more Bank Holidays to look forward to in 2025. To help you plan ahead to make the most of the long weekends you could get off here are the bank holiday dates for 2025.
In Wales and England there are eight bank holidays a year, nine in Scotland and 10 in Northern Ireland. In special circumstances extra bank holidays can be added in – in 2022 there were two extra bank holidays, one on June 3 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, and another on September 19 for the Queen’s funeral.
Paid annual leave for all full-time workers in the UK is a legal entitlement but the amount varies. The legal minimum for people working a full five day week is 25 days, separate to bank holidays and not all jobs guarantee getting bank holidays off. Some reports have suggested there may be one extra bank holiday in 2025 to mark two anniversaries. The 80th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day) is on May 5, 2025, marking the day Nazi Germany’s surrender was accepted by the Allies in 1945, while August 15, 2025, is the 80th anniversary of Japan surrendering to the Allies, ending World War II. - Monday, May 5 – Early May bank holiday
