*Warning: Contains major spoilers for The Traitors Series 3, Episode 1*
The much-anticipated third series of the BBC’s gripping game show The Traitors made a triumphant return to television, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.
Launching at 8pm on New Year’s Day, the latest season introduced a batch of 25 contestants, all vying for the chance to reach the majestic Ardross Castle and embark on their adventure in The Traitors. But the excitement was soon dampened with a jaw-dropping twist before they even set foot in the castle, marking the most ruthless start to the series yet.
Minutes into the first episode, viewers watched as the train transporting the hopefuls suddenly stopped and reversed direction. Claudia Winkleman’s voice then echoed through the speakers, delivering a bombshell that would see three contestants eliminated from the game before it had truly begun, reports the Mirror.

“I’m gifting you £10,000 right now to start your prize pot,” the host’s voice announced. “But as you know, in this game everything comes at a price.”
She continued: “Right now there are 25 passengers on this train, but there are only 22 spaces in the game so for three of you, your journey is now over. One person from each carriage will have to disembark the train before the game can start. It’s up to you to decide who that will be.”
In an intense race against the clock, The Traitors contestants faced the daunting task of deciding who to eject from their carriage within 10 minutes or lose £1,000 from their prize money for every minute they delayed. This led to emotional scenes as Tyler, a 29-year-old barber, couldn’t hold back his tears due to the stress.

Fozia, an outreach manager, was the first to volunteer to exit, opting to put her fate on the line for the team, telling them, “You all owe me big time because this is a big sacrifice.”
Following Fozia was Jack, a 24-year-old landscaper who grappled with doubts over whether his departure truly signalled the end of his time on The Traitors, while Alexander, a former British diplomat aged 38, also reluctantly volunteered to leave the game.
The Traitors is notorious for its unpredictability and surprising twists, leaving viewers wondering if the three eliminated competitors might appear again later on in the series. However in previous series, early evictees typically don’t return.
The Traitors continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
