Vera fans make urgent plea to ITV as Brenda Blethyn’s final season leaves them in tears

Vera viewers were swept up in a wave of emotion just seconds into the final series of the ITV drama, as loyal fans quickly voiced their demands.

The audience tuning into Wednesday night’s episode suggested there should be more programmes like the beloved drama created, expressing their reluctance to bid farewell to the series.

Brenda Blethyn graced our TV screens once again as the formidable DCI Vera Stanhope in the first episode of the 14th and concluding season, where she tackled the mysterious demise of a former prisoner with her reliable team by her side.

In one of the two new feature-length episodes, Vera delved into two entangled cases after the body of an ex-prisoner turned up along the River Tyne, striving to determine whether the deceased inmate had fallen victim to vigilante justice or if his death was entangled in greater complexities.

One fan, commenting on a platform formerly known as Twitter, lamented: “I’m going to miss watching #Vera on @itv. Straightforward detective drama with no OTT stories or officers with hang-ups or dark secrets. Need more like this!” (sic)

Another shared: “1 of 2 final episodes of #Vera. Honestly I’ve been watching this for such a long time, one of the only shows mum and myself will sit and watch together and try to figure out who done it. Sad to see it ending. Brenda Blethyn is an icon.” (sic)

A viewer enthused about the latest installment, tweeting: “Great episode tonight, kept me guessing right to the end. Gutted the series is ending. #Vera.” (sic)

Another devotee admitted their sorrow at the conclusion of Vera, remarking: “Gutted that this is the last Vera. I loved the books and loved the series. They need to make more shows like this.” (sic)

Simultaneously, another expressed their melancholy on social media, writing: “It’s so sad that it’s the final series of Vera But @BrendaBlethyn deserves a decent break now and time to relax #Vera.” (sic)

Despite the beloved series Vera reaching its finale, star Blethyn is receptive to the idea of a spin-off. She previously mused: “I wish there could have been an episode where I stayed at home in Kent: ‘Vera Goes South.'”

She then conceded, understanding the show’s strong regional roots: “But, of course, the series is dyed in the wool of Northumberland and the North East and I understand that’s where it has to be.”
