UK Bank Holiday 2025 list looks quite different to this year’s

The full list of UK bank holidays for 2025 has been confirmed, and as many people prepare to return to work, it’s understandable to start thinking about when we can expect time off in 2025. The new year itself kicks off with a bank holiday on New Year’s Day, January 1.

However, there’s then quite a gap until the next one. England and Wales had eight bank holidays this year, and the same is expected for 2025. But there will be a three-week-long change next year.

In 2024, the first bank holiday after January 1 fell on Friday, March 29 due to Good Friday falling on the last Friday of March, followed by Easter Sunday on March 31. But in 2025, Easter won’t take place until Sunday, April 20, meaning people will have to wait an additional three weeks for their next bank holiday after January 1.

The date of Easter depends on the lunar calendar, as it falls on the first Sunday after the full Moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. Bank holidays will fall either side of Easter, on Good Friday, April 18, and Easter Monday, April 21.

There will then be two bank holidays in May, another in August, and the final two in December. Here is the full list of bank holidays in 2025 in England and Wales:

  • Wednesday, January 1 – New Year’s Day
  • Friday, April 18 – Good Friday
  • Monday, April 21 – Easter Monday
  • Monday, May 5 – Early May bank holiday
  • Monday, May 26 – Spring bank holiday
  • Monday, August 25 – Summer bank holiday
  • Thursday, December 25 – Christmas Day
  • Friday, December 26 – Boxing Day
