Met Office issues timeline of high winds amid huge 21-hour ‘danger to life’ weather warning for Gloucestershire

The first day of 2025 will get off to a blowy start with a weather warning in place for Gloucestershire and the Met Office breaking down when the most severe gusts will be in the county. A 21-hour severe weather warning has been issued from 9am on Wednesday (January 1) until 6am on Thursday.

The warning zone covers all of England and Wales and comes with a small ‘danger to life’ risk from flying debris. There is also a chance of longer journey times, damage to buildings, power cuts, and large waves and beach materials being thrown onto sea fronts – while some bridges could close.

In Gloucestershire, wind speeds will start to increase on New Year’s Eve and then reach a peak on New Year’s Day afternoon in the blustery weather. Wind speeds will range from over 30mph in the morning to up to 56mph in some areas in the afternoon, and then reducing overnight into Thursday.
