Motorists have been warned not to press a mysterious button in their cars. A flurry of confusion has erupted on Reddit, with drivers urging others not to press a button that has left many baffled.
One user shared a photo of the button, writing: “Just bought a new car. What does this button do? I could not find anything on the internet.”
The responses were less than helpful, with suggestions ranging from “microwaving occupants” to “ejector seat.”
Another driver shared their own confusion about a button in their 2014 Peugeot 308, located to the right of the steering wheel. They speculated it might be some sort of radar detection for mobile speed cameras.

Despite pressing the button and hoping for an explanation on the centre console screen, nothing happened. However, one helpful motorist was able to clear up the mystery, explaining: “I think you press that to turn off the volumetric alarm when locking the car so that if for example you have left a dog in the car it won’t set the alarm off. You press it just before getting out and locking the car.”
Another individual provided the following instructions: “It’s the ultrasonic alarm sensor disable button. 1) Switch the ignition OFF. 2) Press and hold the button in, the LED will come on and stay on. 3) Deadlock the car as normal – the interior ultrasonic alarm sensors are deactivated and the LED will revert to its normal flashing mode for the alarm system. You have to repeat this every time you wish to lock the car with the alarm system armed but the ultrasonic sensors disabled.”
