Doctor says eat these two common fruits to boost gut health

A doctor doctor who focuses on gut health has shared ten foods he believes people should eat in 2025. Gastroenterologist Joseph Salhab, better known as The Stomach Doc on social media, often shares health tips and tricks with his millions of followers.

In his latest post, he shared a list of “gut health foods to eat” over the year ahead, and two of them are fruits you may have at home already – apples and bananas. First on his list is sweet potato, a “healthy carb that stimulates positive gut bacteria growth”, and he also recommends dragonfruit – a “prebiotic that feeds gut bacteria and treats constipation”.

Sourdough bread is third, as he says this is “low bloat”, and fourth on the list is hummus – due to its “prebiotic” qualities. He adds that you can eat the hummus and sourdough together.

Artichoke dip was next as it “contains inulin, an incredible prebiotic”, while unripe bananas get a mention due to the “resistant starch that can help treat heartburn”. Oats, the doctor adds, are a “fibre breakfast” that can also help with heartburn, while apples help liver and colon health.

Captioning the post, the nutritional expert added: “Gut health foods to trend in 2025 – let’s make it a happy and healthy new year”. Gut health has become a popular trend in recent years as more research becomes available around the gut microbiome and how it affects the rest of our bodies.
