Soothe pesky sore throat pain in just minutes using simple three-ingredient recipe

No one is fond of falling sick, but the post-festive period often sees a spike in people feeling under the weather.

From pesky colds to those nagging sore throats, it’s a nuisance when you sense an illness creeping up on you. Now a health and wellness influencer on Instagram, @healthy.organic. ways, who amassed a following of 746,000, shared a simple yet rapid remedy for alleviating sore throat discomfort using everyday household items.

In a recent post, it declared: “Instant relief for sore throat pain! Can’t swallow because of a sore throat? This natural remedy will eliminate the pain in minutes.” The account showcased a concoction combining tomato, honey, and lemon juice as the key components to combat the discomfort.

The caption advised: “Here’s how to make it: Cut a raw tomato into pieces – packed with lycopene, a powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidant. Add 2 tablespoons of honey – nature’s healer that soothes and regenerates tissues.

“Squeeze in the juice of 1 lemon to fight off viruses and bacteria. How to take it: Eat the tomato pieces coated with honey and lemon juice for instant relief. If the pain returns, repeat the remedy the next day! Simple, quick, and incredibly effective.”

It’s no secret tomatoes can be very good for you. Full of antioxidants, it might help fight several diseases as it’s high in lycopene which is linked to improved heart health, cancer prevention and protection against sunburns.

Meanwhile several studies show honey also contains potential health benefits, from anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to help treat wounds and infections. Also the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommend honey as a natural cough remedy.

As for lemon, there’s a whole host of benefits. First of all, they’re a great source of vitamin C which can help with immunity, wound healing and fighting infection. Also lemons contain potassium which helps muscles and nerves function properly.

Meanwhile lemons are even great for weight loss too. Since the video was shared on the platform, it garnered a lot of attention and positive reviews from people who tried the remedy.

One said: “I just tried it and it really worked, I’ve been struggling with sore throat since November and tried several different pharmacies drugs but this is really the only thing that has worked… wow! Thanks so much!”

It’s worth remembering the remedy might not work for everyone. The NHS suggests soothing a sore throat with a number of tips at home, including:

  • Gargling with warm, salty water (children should not try this)
  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Eating cool or soft foods
  • Avoiding smoking or smoky places
  • Sucking ice cubes, ice lollies or hard sweets – avoid with young children because of choking risk
  • Resting
