New Year’s Honours 2025: The south east Londoners recognised

The New Year Honours List recognises the achievements and service of people from across the UK, and the work they do from charity and philanthropy to medicine and the arts.

This year ten people with connections to south east London featured on the list for their contributions to society.

Here are all this year’s south east London honorary people:

Dr Loyd Grossman CBE FRS

Dr Loyd Grossman was knighted this year for his work as Chair of the Royal Parks, which manages Greenwich Park in south east London.

Dr Loyd has led a Board of Trustees and helped to form strategies and goals surrounding the environment and engaging people and investment to further benefit the Royal Parks.

One of his key projects has been helping to secure donations to help fund major projects including the £12m Greenwich Park Revealed project, which involved a number of archaeological digs to find out more about the park’s history.

Marlene Hilda Burt

Marlene Hilda Burt works as Governor at Christ the King Sixth Form College in Bexley and was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to Further Education.

Sheila Rose Taylor-Young

Sheila Rose Taylor-Young, who works as a postwoman with Royal Mail, was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to the community in the London Borough of Bromley.

Dennis Edward Moore

Dennis Edward Moore was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his services to the community in Orpington in the London Borough of Bromley.

Florence Kroll

Florence Kroll, Director of Children at Royal Borough of Greenwich, received a CBE for services to Education.

Patricia Ann Merry

Patricia Ann Merry, Chair of the Corbett Community Library Board, was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to the community in Catford in the London Borough of Lewisham.

Professor Stephanie Anne Amiel

Professor Stephanie Anne Amiel, Emeritus Professor of Diabetes Research at King’s College London and Consultant Physician of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, received a DBE for her services to those living with Diabetes.

Professor Keyoumars Ashkan

Professor Keyoumars Ashkhan, Consultant Neurosurgeon at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, was awarded an MBE for services to Neurosurgery.

Professor Safa Taha Al-Sarraj

Professor Safa Taha Al-Sarraj, Head of Clinical Neuropathology at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, was awarded an OBE for services to Medicine and work in Neuropathology.

Professor Ketevan Tchanturia

Professor Ketevan Tchanturia, Professor of Psychology in Eating Disorders, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London and Consultant Psychologist for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, was awarded an MBE for services to People with Eating Disorders and Autism.
