BBC Father Brown season 12 release date, cast, trailer and what to expect

BBC’s Father Brown season 12 is on the way and fans are keen to know when it will be released and who will star in it.

It’s been nearly a year since Father Brown last graced our screens on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with the grand finale seeing Chief Inspector Sullivan (portrayed by Tom Chambers) finally proposing to Mrs Devine (Claudie Blakley).

Naturally, when the beloved crime drama returns, we can expect Roman Catholic priest Father Brown (Mark Williams) to resume his duties and investigate the latest happenings in the 1950s-set village as wedding preparations get underway.

Father Brown season 12 release date

The wait for season 12 is almost over, with Father Brown set to return on Friday, January 10, at 2pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Like previous series, season 12 will consist of 10 episodes. Filming began in April last year, and fans have also been treated to the exciting news that Father Brown has already been renewed for a 13th season.

Father Brown season 12 cast

Actor Mark Williams, who plays the eponymous priest, will return for season 12. Outside of the BBC drama, he is perhaps best known for his role as Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise.

Williams will be joined once again by former Casualty star Tom Chambers as Chief Inspector Sullivan and Lark Rise to Candleford’s Claudie Blakley as Mrs Devine.

Actress Ruby-May Martinwood and actor John Burton are set to return to their roles as Brenda and Sergeant Goodfellow, respectively, in the newest instalment of Father Brown.

Avid watchers of the show will be delighted with some fresh faces joining the series, as Kieran Hodgson from Two Doors Down steps into the role of Father Lindsey, described as Father Brown’s “biggest fan”.

Audiences are also teased with the introduction of a “brand new nemesis” whose casting details have yet to be unveiled.

Father Brown season 12 plot

Father Brown, the beloved sleuth of Kembleford, is returning for its 12th season, and there’s an official synopsis that’s just been released to whet fans’ appetites before the series kicks off.

The synopsis teases: “Following the exciting proposal at the end of series 11, the sleepy village of Kembleford is abuzz with good news, as Mrs Devine and Chief Inspector Sullivan look forward to their upcoming wedding.

“But when a surprise visit from the father of the groom quickly throws preparations into turmoil, will they even make it to the church?”

As the plot thickens, it promises: “With a medieval death at a Tudor battle reenactment, Mrs Devine finding herself accused of murder, Sergeant Goodfellow’s professional future thrown into question and Brenda ballroom dancing on national television, Father Brown and the gang are busier than ever.

“And when a cardinal from the Vatican arrives with a top-secret mission for Father Brown, the priest must request the help of his old adversary Flambeau, while a new nemesis lurks in the shadows.”

Father Brown season 12 premieres on Friday, January 10, at 2pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
