A neighbourhood wine bar announced it’s ‘taking a leap of faith’ and is reinvesting in its building after seven ‘proud’ years. As building works begin, the King’s Heath business will open a temporary pop-up space on January 8.
Grace + James is an independent bar on York Road which specialises in organic and natural wines. It’s one place if you like discovering new and old favourites, the wine list changes every day.
Outside of wine, Grace + James serves a mixture of food for customers, ranging from sandwiches to deli plates. The neighbourhood bar frequently holds cheese and wine-tasting events, with one planned for February 22, showcasing English producers.

Coffee shop Flock, inside Grace + James and restaurant Koba Ko Upstairs will remain open but customers will need to use the side door. Describing the decision to reinvest as a ‘leap of faith’ during these ‘uncertain economic times’, Grace + James thanked customers and encouraged guests to visit their new location.
From January 8, Grace + James will be temporarily located on 21 York Road, only a few doors down from their venue.
On Instagram, Grace + James posted: “It’ll be seven years in 2025 that we’ve been with you all on York Road. We never really had a long-term plan when we first opened the doors, as it felt like a huge risk. To stay open for at least a year felt like a win.
“Seven years on and we’re so proud of what our little space has achieved. Opened on a shoestring, it’s (just about) stood the test of time. But the building is starting to look a tad dishevelled and we felt it was time to give ourselves a bit of a spruce-up.
“For the past few months we’ve been working behind the scenes with the talented individuals Nomad Rush on our new brand identity, as well as The Den Home on a redesign and renovation of the ground floor, which begins this coming Monday. We’re incredibly excited to share more details about what’s to come and we’ll do so over the coming weeks.
“Whilst the building works take place we will be reopening in a temporary pop-up space at 21 York Road on Jan 8 and we’ll be open our usual hours, apart from being closed on Weds and Thurs evenings. Flock will be operating from their usual spot, as will Koba Ko Upstairs (you’ll just need to use the side door whilst the work is taking place).
“It feels like a leap of faith to be reinvesting back into the building during these uncertain economic times. We take nothing for granted and appreciate every single person that supports us. Please do pop in and see us over the coming weeks!”
