‘High risk’ drink driver arrested after hitting 96mph on M4 as passenger makes huge mistake

A speeding driver was more than four times over the drink-driving limit for alcohol after being stopped by police on the M4. The reckless motorist hit crazy speeds of up to 96mph before giving a breath-test reading of 170ug/100ml.

According to drinkdriving.org, this breath reading made the driver a “high-risk offender”. The site said: “High risk offenders are required to take and pass a DVLA medical before their driving licence will be returned to them upon expiration of their driving driving disqualification.”

Wiltshire Police Specialist Operations said in a post on X during the early hours of yesterday morning, Tuesday, January 1: “Astonishingly, the passengers in this car were upset at our intervention with this drink driver. You’re reading it right…. 170ug on the breath test (161ug in custody) at 96mph on the M4. That’s an almost unbelievable 4.6x the limit.”

The force explained that one of the passengers in the vehicle sat down on the road and began shouting during the arrest. They were also arrested and taken to custody with the drink driver.

After being asked what happens to the passengers when a vehicle is stopped on the motorway, the police explained: “So to ensure they were as safe as possible officers drove the vehicle to the police station where they could wait…

“The passengers however were not happy with this either, one exiting the car and sitting down on the road shouting profanities, they were also arrested.”
