Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden says ‘can’t wait’ as she shares career news

Amy Dowden, known for her steps on BBC Strictly Come Dancing, is showcasing a different talent as she takes to the airwaves in place of Wynne Evans on his BBC Radio Wales show.

The Welsh professional dancer is filling in while Wynne, a contestant on the 2024 series of Strictly, enjoys a break, and Amy has taken to Instagram to share her excitement about her stint at the Cardiff-based station.

Her post included a snapshot from her desk along with the caption: “Loved covering the lovely @wynneevans radio show today. I’m back covering again tomorrow morning 9am-12! Get in touch, have loved hearing from you all this morning.”

Fans were quick to respond to Amy’s update, expressing their enjoyment of the broadcast and anticipation for more. One fan wrote: “Was lovely to listen this morning – can’t wait for tomorrow morning too.”

Others shared similar sentiments, with comments like: “You did SO good! loved listening to you.” And “Love you Amy! Happy New Year you beautiful queen,” reports Wales Online.

A caller also expressed how thrilled they were to speak with Amy directly, stating: “I absolutely loved talking to you even if I was very star struck.” Another listener added: “Yay- always look forward to hearing more Amy on the radio.”

Amy is well-acquainted with the world of broadcasting, having not only previously featured on BBC Radio Wales but also hosting her own BBC Wales dance show, Amy Dowden’s Dare To Dance. Apart from these, she is a regular guest on ITV1’s Lorraine.

In 2024, Amy made a triumphant return to Strictly Come Dancing following her treatment for breast cancer, but unfortunately, a foot injury cut her comeback short. Her celebrity dance partner, JB Gill, was subsequently paired with fellow professional dancer Lauren Oakley, and together they danced their way into the final.

Amy has also shared her aspirations of becoming a mother after having frozen five embryos with her husband before undergoing cancer treatment.

Having gone through early menopause due to chemotherapy, Amy expressed her desire to start a family and remains hopeful that she and her husband Ben will be fortunate enough to have children.

Speaking on the What If podcast, she said: “I’m just saying yes to as many opportunities and living life to the full, spending time with loved ones as well and obviously, we would love a family.

“And we’ve got embryos because obviously I’ve got a hormone fed cancer, so I had to go to menopause, which happened the day I started chemo.

“So in a couple of years, when they feel it’s safe to, hopefully we’ll have the opportunity. “And if not, there’s still lots of other opportunities, which we have spoken about.”
