Houses evacuated amid reports of ‘gas leak’ as emergency crews close residential road

Houses were evacuated amid reports of ‘gas leak’ in Little Hulton on Thursday (January 2). Emergency crews, including police and paramedics, closed Seddon Street, a residential road, shortly after 2pm.

Witnesses reported seeing a number of fire engines, police vehicles and ambulances lining the street throughout the afternoon. A number of nearby houses were temporarily evacuated.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service also attended along with Cadent Gas. The area was taped off amid investigations into the incident.

Fire crews remained at the scene for just over an hour. Further details about the nature of the incident have not yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 2.05pm on Thursday 2 January, two fire engines from Farnworth and Atherton fire stations attended a gas leak at a house on Seddon Street, Worsley.

“Crews arrived quickly, evacuated the adjacent properties and worked alongside Cadent Gas and Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe. Firefighters were in attendance for approximately one hour and 10 minutes.”

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a full statement.
