BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty says ‘good luck’ as Charlie Stayt makes on-air blunder

BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt experienced a bit of an on-air gaffe during Friday’s (January 3) programme.

He informed viewers that over a thousand visually impaired individuals are currently in need of guide dogs. With a call for volunteer puppy raisers, the morning show aired a pre-recorded segment featuring Phil Mackie talking to a guide dog charity.

After the clip finished, Charlie mentioned that the topic would be discussed more thoroughly later in the broadcast. Naga chimed in with: “I mean, you’ve got beautiful puppies doing a good thing, can’t go wrong! To which Charlie responded: “It’s worth saying a little later on this morning, at 8:40, we’ll be talking to guide dogs themselves”.

Realising his error, he quickly corrected himself, clarifying that he and Naga would actually be speaking to representatives from the guide dog organisation. Catching the slip-up, Naga quipped: “I was going to say good luck if you’re going to have a conversation with a guide dog!”

Charlie chuckled at his own mistake, jokingly suggesting: “Why not try it?! Maybe we should try it! Look, a lot of people talk to their dogs, they get enormous satisfaction from it. Nothing wrong with that, I’m not going to knock that.”

However, Naga highlighted a minor problem: the dogs wouldn’t be able to talk back. She said: “No, I don’t think it would be the best interview to watch.”

The banter continued as Naga laughed at Charlie’s comment, while he insisted: “I think it would!”

Charlie Stayt, while informing viewers of an upcoming interview on BBC, detailed that a seven-month-old puppy named Herbie would be joining them in the studio, noting the animal is training to be a volunteer. He highlighted: “It’s amazing work they do, so we’ll find out more about that a bit later on.”

Naga responded enthusiastically, suggesting: “You know we have klaxons, we should have a cuteness alert as well, shouldn’t we?”
