Youths throw stones, eggs and cause havoc in shops as police issue plea to parents

Parents are being urged to stay alert after police were inundated with calls over youths causing havoc in a Greater Manchester town. Greater Manchester Police says it received ‘numerous reports’ of anti-social behaviour in Westhoughton town centre, near Bolton, this week.

Officers were called out to reports of youths throwing stones, eggs and ‘being disruptive’ inside shops. In a statement issued today (January 3), GMP said the incidents had taken place ‘over the last couple of days’.

The force is now urging parents and guardians to speak to their children about ‘being respectful’. A GMP Bolton spokesperson wrote on Facebook: “Do you know where your child is?

“We have received numerous reports of anti-social behaviour over the last couple of days around Westhoughton town centre with youths throwing stones and eggs and being disruptive in some of the retail premises. Victims of anti-social behaviour are often repeat victims who feel targeted in their own homes.

“If your child spends time around Westhoughton please speak to them about being respectful to others. It will be a minority spoiling it for the majority.

“Those responsible will be identified and they can expect a visit from the Westhoughton Neighbourhood Team. If you have any information that might assist us please report it either online or via 101 quoting log 2756 of 02/01/25.”
