The new year couldn’t have got off to a better start for a Devon man who entered an 89p online car prize draw competition and won a Ferrari worth £140,000.
Gerald Hallam, who is retired and lives in Buckland Monachorum, was offered the chance of becoming the proud owner of a Ferrari 488 GTB. It is renowned for its sleek design and incredible 660bhp performance.
However, he instead went for the sensible alternative and chose a cash alternative to supplement his pension and buy a smaller vehicle.
The dilemma was thrust upon Gerald after he entered BOTB’s Special Edition Competition and then received a surprise visit from its presenter Christian Williams, who personally delivered the life-changing news.
Gerald, who says he has never won anything before in his life, said: “It took me a while before I clicked who it was and then thought he must have the wrong house. It’s a lovely car, and if I could afford it, I’d keep it. But I’ve got a basic income, and the cash would mean a lot more to me.
“I haven’t had a car for a few years, so I’ll probably use it to get myself a small one. I’ll also get a few things for the house and maybe go on holiday in the sunshine somewhere.”
Reflecting on his past as a trainee mechanic, Gerald shared his unique connection to Ferraris.
“I worked at a garage that was the biggest importer of Ferraris in South Africa at the time, so I’ve worked on them before, but can’t believe I’ve won one myself,” he added.
Leading car competitions company BOTB hands over the keys to a stunning dream car each week as well as a lifestyle prize. It also offers people the chance to win a holiday, cash, tech, cars and more in its Instant Wins Competition.
