Killer dad Urfan Sharif pleads with prison doctors to avoid return to cell

Killer dad Urfan Sharif has begged prison doctors not to discharge him back to his cell because he is terrified of being attacked again.

The 43-year-old monster who murdered his 10-year-old daughter Sara after subjecting her to a life of sickening abuse, has been left scarred for life after having his throat slashed in prison with the jagged lid of a tuna tin.

Two inmates ambushed Sharif in his cell at HMP Belmarsh in South London on New Year’s Day.

Police are probing if the attackers took advantage of lax bank holiday staffing after being warned that Sharif was a prized target among fuming inmates sickened by his crime.

Prison insiders say he was lucky to survive the New Year’s Day attack just weeks into his life sentence – but is now pleading to be kept away from other convicts.

A source told The Sun Sharif had been left terrified after inmates realised his identity and is now desperate to be kept in the hospital wing at HMP Belmarsh where he received emergency treatment.

They said: “Sharif has had treatment and was lucky to survive. He is not back on the wing yet, and may have to be placed in solitary for his own safety.

“The word is that others will try another attack – he has a target on his back because of who he is and what he did.

“He will always be looking over his shoulder and, if anything, is even more of a target now.

“Other inmates will not stop because he has been attacked once.”

Sharif was handed a minimum 40-year term last month for murdering innocent Sara in a “campaign of torture” that saw her beaten, burned and bitten.

He was jailed alongside fellow murderer – his wife and Sara’s stepmum –  Beinash Batool, 30, and brother Faisal Malik, 29, who was convicted of allowing the death of a child.

Their defenceless victim was beaten with a cricket bat and metal pole, burnt her with an iron and strangled.

The prison source added:  “Sharif was hit in a planned attack. The two people who got him will be moved, and that is even a possibility for Sharif.

“But if he is moved he will just face the same problems somewhere else. He was sliced in the neck and face and was in a very bad way after the attack.

“He was lucky to survive, has had to have stitches and will have scars as a permanent reminder of the attack.”

Police are now investigating the incident at the Category A jail which high numbers of murderers and terrorists including Ali Harbi Ali, the killer of MP David Amess, ‘Grindr killer’ Stephen Port, ‘Night Stalker’ rapist Delroy Grant and Danyal Hussein who murdered two sisters in a London park.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Police are investigating an assault on a prisoner at HMP Belmarsh on 1 January.

The Met Police said they were investigating an alleged assault on January 1 where a “43-year-old suffered non life-threatening injuries”.

Many of Britain’s most notorious killers have lived in terror after convicts put bounties on their heads. In 2010, Soham murderer Huntley had his throat slashed at Durham’s Frankland Jail by fellow inmate Damien Fowkes. Huntley, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of 10-year-old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002 suffered “severe gaping cut to the left side of his neck”, which needed 21 stitches.

Afterwards, Fowkes said: “I hope I killed him. I’ve been planning it for weeks.”

Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe was attacked several times in prison before his death in 2020.

While at Parkhurst, he was attacked by James Costello, leaving him with facial cuts that needed 30 stitches.

After being moved to Broadmoor, Sutcliffe was set upon in his cell by Paul Wilson, who attempted to strangle him with the cord from a pair of headphones.

And in March 1997, Sutcliffe lost the sight of his left eye after being stabbed by fellow inmate Ian Kay.
