TfL to partly shut Piccadilly line this weekend for track improvements

Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed the Piccadilly line will partly close this weekend for vital track improvements. On Saturday, January 4, and Sunday, January 5, there will be no service on the North London stretch between King’s Cross St Pancras and Cockfosters.

Tonight (Friday, January 3), Night Tube services will be suspended between Hyde Park Corner and Cockfosters for the same works. The North West London section of the line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge has been shut since late November due to significant leaf fall which has damaged trains.

TfL told MyLondon last month that it expects the new fleet of trains being introduced to the Piccadilly line to be more resilient to issues caused by leaf fall in autumn.

Separate branches of the London Overground are also set to shut down this weekend for planned work. On Sunday, the Mildmay line will shut between Richmond and Willesden Junction.

There will also be no service between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction until 9.30am. Affected passengers are advised to use alternative Tube and bus routes.

The Windrush line will shut on the same day between New Cross Gate and both Crystal Palace and West Croydon.

From Sunday until next Thursday (January 9) trains won’t run on the Weaver line between Hackney Downs and Chingford after 10.45pm. This is due to National Rail maintenance work.

The Elizabeth line will run a reduced service on Sunday between Paddington and both Heathrow and Maidenhead.

In addition to this, there will be no service between Maidenhead and Reading until after 11.45am.
