The London Underground’s ‘loneliest’ stretch where commuters ‘have carriage to themselves’

Navigating London’s bustling streets can be a breeze when you hop on the Tube, which connects nearly every corner of the city. But during peak hours, it’s a different story as the underground becomes packed to the brim, leaving no room to breathe.

Yet, there are times when tranquillity prevails and you might find yourself alone in what could be dubbed London’s ‘loneliest’ stretch of the Underground.

This little-known fact surfaced on social media, where a Reddit user was seeking tips for a crowd-free photoshoot on the Tube.

The query posted was: “Heya. I am hoping to take some photos of a friend on the tube, but preferably want as empty a carriage as possible. I am guessing it is best to ride out to the end of a Tube line at a remote hour, but which lines and which times do you think would be best? Thanks!”

Fellow Redditors chimed in with their insider info, suggesting that the Hainault Loop on the Central Line is particularly serene outside of rush hours.

One suggested: “Hainault Loop of the Central Line, any time away from rush hour.”

Another confirmed its quietude, commenting: “Yeah I was there last weekend and had it to myself.”

While the Hainault loop may have won the title for peacefulness, other tranquil routes were also mentioned by the helpful Londoners on Reddit.

A Londoner has shared their peaceful journey on the Northern line to High Barnet, saying: “I used to get the Northern to High Barnet at 8am on weekdays for singing tuition. Almost always had the train to myself after Finchley Central. I used to warm up after it emptied, there’s something very liberating about singing top note on public transport.”

Other commuters have also highlighted the off-peak hours of the Waterloo and City line as a quiet route, while some have praised the District line to Olympia as a tranquil travel option.
