A man has been hospitalised with potentially life-changing injuries following an alleged assault on a busy shopping street. The incident reportedly happened on Commercial Road in Pillgwenlly in Newport where a police cordon remained on Friday afternoon.
Forensics from Gwent Police remained at the scene on Friday at 1pm. No-one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident.
On Friday a spokesperson for the force asked for the public’s help with their investigation. They said: “We received a report of an assault at around 5.35am on Friday, January 3 after a man was found in Commercial Road, Newport with injuries.”

They added: “Officers attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service and a 32-year-old man was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances and anyone with information is asked to contact us quoting log reference 2500002127.”
