A Yorkshire pub flooded on New Year’s Day has partially reopened – but it could be weeks before it is fully back to normal.
The family-run Navigation Inn at Calder Grove, Wakefield, had to close due to flood water which entered the building, wrecking furniture, stock and equipment.
It reopened at noon today (January 3), although a spokesman said the cellar was still unavailable. “The top bar escaped the water so we have made a bottle bar. The bottom bar will be a good few weeks.”
The pub spokesman thanked family and friends for helping to clear up the mess following the flood.
Meanwhile, an online fund has been set up to help the pub recover. Charlotte Outhwaite, a supporter of the pub, set up the Go Fund Me appeal to raise £4,000. To date, more than £500 has been raised. The fund can be found here.

Charlotte said: “I am fundraising on behalf of The Navigation Inn due to the horrendous and severe flooding they have just endured. With no time to prepare, with a lack of flood warning they were not prepared for what was to come.
“This will be their 17th flood in 24 years and with no insurance to cover due to being refused for location. Unfortunately a lot of furniture, stock and equipment has been sadly ruined and destroyed due to this.
“The water sadly got to the top of the cellar and the bar top and was above waist height. There was skirting boards floating as well as tables chairs and many of glasses. If you can help with any kind of donation to help replace furniture and get them back up and running as quick as possible it would be a huge help. Anything is hugely appreciated.”
The Go Fund Me can be found here. Around 30 people have made donations so far.
