A diversion route is in place on the M60 following a crash and fire that have closed the motorway tonight (Friday, January 3). The clockwise carriageway is shut to traffic near Junction 22 (near Hollinwood).
The closure was first reported at around 8.30pm and the M.E.N is providing live updates here. One of the vehicles involved in the crash has caught fire and three people have been taken into the care of North West Ambulance Service, according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “The M60 in Greater Manchester is closed clockwise between J22 near (Oldham) and J23 near (Ashton-Under-Lyne) due to a collision.
“Police are on scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also in attendance to assist with traffic management.”
M60 Diversion route:
National Highways has put the following diversion route in place. Motorists are urged to follow the solid diamond diversion symbol on road signs if heading clockwise.
Leave M60 clockwise at J22. At M60 J22/A62 Junction, turn left onto A62 northbound and follow for 2.7 km.
At A62/A627 roundabout, join A627 eastbound and follow for 0.6 km. At A627 King Street roundabout, join A627 southbound and follow for 5.5 km.
At A627/A6043 junction, turn right onto A6043 westbound and follow for 0.2 km. At A6043/A6410 roundabout, join the A6140 westbound and follow for 2.5 km.
At A6140 (Lord Sheldon Way) A6140 (Moss Way) junction, join A6104 (Moss Way) southbound. At A6140/M60 J23 , join the M60 J23 clockwise entry slip road and re-join M60.
