Live updates as Gloucestershire to be hit by amber snow warning

Gloucestershire is set for a blanket of white today as centimeters of snow arrives in the county. Freezing temperatures are expected this weekend and experts warn the cold and icy weather could have significant impacts for travel, rural communities and vulnerable locals.

Two Met Office weather warnings will come into effect today – the first, a yellow warning for snow and ice at 12pm which covers large parts of England and Wales. A second, more localised amber warning will come into effect from 6pm and includes Gloucestershire, as well as the Midlands and parts of Wales.

Snow is then set to arrive by 5pm before becoming heavier throughout the evening, before turning to rain overnight and into Sunday. Get in touch on our Facebook page here.

Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued an amber cold health alert which is in place until 12pm next Wednesday (January 8). People have been warned of significant disruption across health and social care services.
