Bristol is bracing for bitterly cold weather and possible snowfall this weekend as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across almost all of the UK.
The weather warning is in place from midday today (January 4), until 11.59pm on Sunday, January 5, and covers large parts of the south-west including Bristol, Devon, Bath and North East Somerset, Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire.
In Bristol, the Met Office is predicting a 90% chance of precipitation between 6pm and 8pm on Saturday evening, which could be either rain or snowfall.
But with temperatures set to plummet as low as just 1°C in the city this evening – and feeling like -3°C – there is a high chance we might see some of the white stuff falling from the sky.
The Met Office has warned that heavy snow, and some freezing rain in places, may cause some disruption over the weekend. There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected, potentially leaving some rural communities cut off.
There is also a small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, as well as a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.
