Inside the new Clifton delicatessen described as a ‘luxury food emporium’

Described as a ‘luxury food emporium offering their own gourmet cured and smoked foods, along with local British produce’, Root & Ember is a brand new delicatessen experience nestled in the heart of Clifton.

It describes itself as being ‘dedicated to provenance and sustainability’, also offering up a vast array of artisanal pantry supplies.

Root & Ember opened back on November 6 in the former home of Mr Swanton’s Barbers on Bruton Place. Jane and Freddie Jago are the mother and son duo behind the venue, with Freddie named as the ‘head smoker’.

The team says: “Whilst the Root & Ember shop hosts the very best pantry supplies, Freddie can be found downstairs in the Root & Ember kitchen curing and smoking his own fish and meat. The results appear upstairs in the shop, sitting on well stocked shelves alongside sauces, chutneys and pastas from businesses nearby.

“Freddie is joined by Jake and Hedy on the shop floor who ensure that every shopper can sample Root & Ember’s own produce. Root & Ember is a one-stop destination for gastronomes in Bristol. For weekday suppers, weekend hosting and everything in between, make No. 3 Bruton Place a must stop on the way home.”
