A person has died after being hit by a train at Watford Junction on Wednesday afternoon (January 1). The ensuing disruption affected the London Northwestern Railway, closing lines.
London Ambulance Service paramedics and British Transport Police officers rushed to the scene at 2.13pm after an emergency alert was issued on the railway.
Trains from London Euston, Wembley Central, Harrow & Wealdstone and Bushey, were cancelled, delayed and revised. Disruptions affected the route until 8.30pm. The person was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Watford Junction railway station at around 2pm on January 1 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
A London Northwestern Railway spokesperson said: “Services running through Watford Junction were subject to delays and cancellation on Wednesday afternoon while the emergency services dealt with an incident on the railway.
“Our thoughts are with everybody affected.
“We encourage any passenger who has been delayed by 15 minutes or more as a result of disruption to claim compensation against the cost of their ticket under the Delay Repay scheme.”
