Perhaps we don’t always think of Stately Homes when we talk of Birmingham, but we do have more than you think. Birmingham has a rich and diverse heritage that has been around for many decades and centuries. Some buildings are just ruins, or a few remnants remain, but others are still going strong centuries later.
We take a look at some of the wonderful properties which have made Birmingham the city of today and helped build our rich culture. One of Birmingham’s finest is Aston Hall. A Grade I listed Jacobean House in Aston, designed by John Thorpe and built between 1618 and 1635.
Castle Bromwich Hall is another classic example of Birmingham’s heritage. A Jacobean Mansion in Castle Bromwich built between 1557 and 1585 by Sir Edward Devereux, 1st Baronet of Castle Bromwich, MP for Tamworth in Staffs. Today is it a smart hotel on the Chester Road.
Other buildings have not done so well over the years. Perry Hall was demolished in 1927 when Birmingham Corporation made the decision they could only save either Aston Hall or Perry Hall. Perry Hall got the chop and today we are left with just the moat in the playing fields.
So perhaps have a wonder round one of these classics and enjoy the wealth and culture Birmingham has to offer.
