Fans of The Masked Singer were ‘100% convinced’ they had rumbled the identity of Teeth after their first performance on the show – and it had nothing to do with their singing. It was actually a whispered comment to host Joel Dommett that might have given the game away.
The ITV show, which sees celebrities perform in elaborate costumes while the judging panel and viewers try to work out who is behind the mask, returned on Saturday (January 4) with a fresh batch of 12 famous faces hoping to deceive us all. The panel, consisting of Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and newcomer Maya Jama, was joined by special guest Sir Mo Farah for the sixth series’ grand kick-off.
Teeth was first up on the stage after being picked by new judge Maya Jama to perform. Clues for the star included “I’ve always been a big mouth” and “I’ve bitten off more than I can chew” to “I know how to tackle the Masked Singer” and “going for gold”. They went on to perform (Is This The Way To) Amarillo by Tony Christie, before adding a final clue: “I’ve been schooled in variety, I have lots in the mix, the way I perform knocks the audience for six.”

While the clues led the celebrity panel to believe it may be a sports star behind the costume, with guesses including Alex Scott, viewers at home were convinced a whispered comment to Joel Dommett held the secret to the star’s identity.
Joel revealed: “This is the sixth series in and that is the first time a character has bumped into me and just gone ‘Sorry Joel’.” Viewers soon took to X, formerly Twitter, to declare it ‘must be’ comedian Alan Carr, known for his striking teeth.
One wrote: “”sorry Joel” Teeth says as he bumps into Joel Dommett. 100% convinced now it’s Alan Carr.” Another agreed: “Alan Carr’s dad was manager of Northampton Town Football Club – seaside clue. He had braces as a kid and he hit them on a caravan park in Great Yarmouth. – he did Coach Trip, hence the coach and Alan got mistaken for a woman when he worked in a call centre.”
Another Masked Singer agreed: “I’m guessing Alan Carr teeth and there’s loads of clues for it to be him. ‘I’ve been schooled in variety, I have lots in the mix, the way I perform knocks the audience for six.'”
Other guesses for Teeth from viewers include comedian Rob Beckett, Dame Judi Dench and swimming star Tom Daley.
