LIVE: Bristol Airport suspends flights after heavy snow

A number of flights departing and arriving at Bristol Airport tonight (Saturday, January 4) have been diverted or cancelled following snowfall. As of time of writing (8.30pm), four flights have been diverted to Birmingham and one has been diverted to Cardiff.

Meanwhile, a 6.05pm departure to Paris has been cancelled, as well at the 7.30pm flight to Edinburgh. Other scheduled arrivals at Bristol tonight have also been scrapped.

In a statement, Bristol Airport said: “The Bristol Airport team are working hard on snow clearing but challenging weather means that flight operations have been suspended until later tonight. This will mainly impact inbound flights but any concerned customers are advised to contact their airline for more information.”

The diversions come in the midst of a yellow weather warning for snow in Bristol. The warning is in effect until 11.59pm tomorrow and means that there is ” a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel” (Met Office).

This is an evolving story and we will be bringing you updates as they come in. Bristol Airport have been approached for comment.
