Headteacher braves the shave to show solidarity with his grandson

The Head of English at a school took a bold step in front of the entire school community and shaved his hair to show solidarity with his grandson.

Accrington Academy’s Lee Croniken bravely embraced the clippers on Friday, December 20 to raise funds for the Aplastic Anaemia Trust and show support for his grandson, Logan. Logan was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anaemia earlier this year and is preparing for a bone marrow transplant.

The rare condition, which prevents the bone marrow from producing sufficient blood cells, has brought significant challenges to Logan and his family. In a heart-warming assembly filled with cheers and tears, Mr Croniken raised awareness about the condition.

The shave symbolises the family’s journey through Logan’s treatment and their gratitude for the invaluable support provided by the Aplastic Anaemia Trust. A thousand students and colleagues applauded when it was revealed Mr Croniken and the Team AA family raised £2,129.70, bringing the family’s total raised for the charity to £3,756.70.

Speaking after the event, Mr Croniken said: “Logan’s bravery through this challenging time has inspired me beyond words. Shaving my head is a small gesture compared to what he’s going through, but it’s my way of standing with him and raising awareness for this incredible cause.

“The support from our school and the wider community has been overwhelming.”

Principal Jamie Peel added: “At accrington-academy>Accrington Academy, we pride ourselves on being a family, and today’s event showed the true spirit of #TeamAA. “We’re incredibly proud of Mr Croniken’s gesture and the support our community has shown for Logan and his family.”

The academy has rallied behind the campaign, with students and staff joining forces to raise funds for the Trust.

Donations can still be made by visiting the campaign page here.

Funds raised from the event will go directly to the Aplastic Anaemia Trust, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by bone marrow failure conditions.
