The lovely South London winter walk where dogs and families are welcome that starts with brunch

While London has much to offer this time of year, winter walks are always a great way to unwind and appreciate the beauty of the season. And the the capital certainly isn’t short of spots to take a scenic stroll.

One of them is the Morden Hall Park, a 125-acre parkland with the River Wandle flowing through it. Created in the 19th century by the Hatfeilds family, it now has a trail that allows visitors to explore the place in all its glory.

The route starts at the Potting Shed Café, next to the Garden Centre car park. Just around the corner are the stables, constructed in the 1870s to house carriage and riding horses and which are a real demonstration of the Hatfeilds’ wealth.

The next step on the trail is the snuff mill, which the family used to dry and grind the tobacco into a fine powder known as snuff. This activity was the source of their fortune.

After the mill, strollers can see the rose garden, planted in the early 20th century, as well as the 18th-century statues of Neptune and Venus. The path then continues along the course of the River Wandle.

It is surrounded by wetlands, riverbanks and islands that provide a habitat to a wide variety of plants, animals, insects and birds. The trail ends back at the Potting Shed Café, which serves homemade breakfasts, lunches and cakes made from locally sourced products.

Morden Hall Park is located at Morden Hall Rd, London SM4 5JD. Find out more information about the trail here.
