A number of Yorkshire roads have been closed as the region is battered by severe snow.
The M62 near Huddersfield is down to one lane due to it being barely passable for snow while Snakepass is completely shut. Forecasters at the Met Office have issued an amber weather warning for many parts of the country, including Yorkshire, after the cold snap came into place on Saturday evening.
According to the amber warning, the snow is expected to cause disruption. There is expected to be disruption to services, roads and public transport in many areas.
Here is a full list of road closures so far. It will be updated throughout the day.
-
M62 in both directions just passable due to snow from J21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way (Milnrow) to J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield). The motorway is down to one lane in places along this stretch.
-
Unclassified road shut in both directions closed due to ice and snow between Oxenhope (Oxenhope) and Mount Tabor (Wainstalls).
-
A628 Woodhead Pass in both directions closed due to snow between Tintwistle and A616 (Flouch Roundabout).
-
A59 in both directions closed due to landslip from Church Hill (Blubberhouses) to B6160 Bolton Road (Bolton Abbey roundabout, Bolton Bridge).
The Met Office said: “Snow will reach the south of the warning area later Saturday, then spread north across the rest of the area through Sunday morning. Snow will be persistent and heavy at times, and will likely drift in brisk easterly winds, especially over higher ground.
“Much of the warning area can expect 3-7 cm of snow. Areas above about 150 m will likely see 15-30 cm, with 40 cm for ground above 300 m, before snow begins to ease and clear by the end of Sunday. For some lower-lying areas, such as the Vale of York, snow may mix with rain at times making estimations of snow depths here more difficult. Regardless, travel will likely be difficult, with power line icing an additional impact.”
The Road in Oxenhope was one of the first roads in our region to be closed at around 12.30pm on Saturday due to ice and snow between Oxenhope and Mount Tabor at Wainstalls. It remains closed today. The A66 and Snake Pass also shut last night.
