Charlton Athletic asked for update on duo set to be out of contract this month

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones says that talks over the futures of Danny Hylton and Dan Potts are “ongoing”.

The pair were both signed on short-term deals once the League One campaign had started and they are due to once again be free agents this month.

Striker Hylton, 35, has made eight appearances – four of those in the league. He scored against his former club Northampton Town in a 5-0 victory just before Christmas.

Former Luton defender Potts, 30, has played 221 minutes for the Addicks, 146 of those in the EFL Trophy.

“That is ongoing,” said Jones, when asked whether the duo would be extending their stays.

“Potts hasn’t featured as much but they are so important to the environment. It’s not just what they do in the 90 minutes – we have got a really good environment, group and culture at the football club. They add to that.

“I brought them in, with the experience they have, because we’ve got a lot of young players.

“Danny speaks to Miles (Leaburn) and Gassan (Ahadme) and he helps those. You can see that Miles is a different animal in the last four, five or six games. Danny has done a lot of work with him.

“That is one of the reasons we brought Hylts in. We knew Hylts wasn’t going to do 90, 90, 90 and stuff but the way he is around the place – when Danny Hylton is in your environment then good things happen.”
