Ruth Langsford has provided a significant update on her mother’s health status, following an urgent hospital admission three weeks ago due to a broken pelvis. Joan, aged 94, sustained the painful injury in a fall, causing Ruth considerable concern and leading her to keep fans informed about her mother’s condition via social media.
However, there has been a major improvement in the Loose Women star’s mother’s health, as Ruth was able to announce that she had finally been discharged and could return home. Sharing the positive news with her Instagram followers, Ruth posted a video showing her mother back at home and enjoying some quality time with her dog, Maggie.
Accompanied by Everly Fair’s cover of I Love You Always Forever, Ruth captioned the post: “SHE’S HOME! ! ! Mum is finally out of hospital! Thank you to all the nursing staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and Woking Community Hospital for taking such good care of her. As you can see, Maggie is VERY happy to have her home!”.
This latest development signifies a significant step in Joan’s recovery, coming just days after the pair expressed their hopes for her to be discharged so she could continue her recovery at home.
“Love is….sharing the last piece of Christmas cake!” Ruth had previously shared with her followers. “Happy New Year from me and Mum…thank you for all your kind wishes. Hoping to have her home soon x x.”, reports the Mirror.

News of Joan’s fall first emerged last month, when Ruth revealed that the mishap had happened during some pre-Christmas preparations. Sharing a clip of her elderly mum dancing in her kitchen while peeling some vegetables, , Ruth penned: “No dancing in my kitchen peeling the veg for my darling Mum this Christmas….She’s had a fall and fractured her pelvis! She’s ok…ish, no surgery required thank goodness but she needs rest and time to heal now.”
“She’s in hospital at the moment but I’m hoping to get her home soon.”
It marked the second time in two years that she had fallen and broken something at Christmas, having suffered a broken hip in 2023 too.
The worrying ordeal is just one of several health battles Joan has faced in recent years, as she currently receives care at home due to dementia.

Ruth has previously opened up about Joan’s health battle and remains incredibly close to her mum. She previously broke down in tears after not being able to visit during the peak of coronavirus lockdown rules, as regular visits are a highlight of the week for both mother and daughter.
Thankfully with the pandemic now safely behind us, Joan regularly features in Ruth’s social media updates, particularly when they cook together at weekends.
