Nova, a name that soared in popularity in 2023, is now conspicuously absent from the latest baby name statistics. Despite earning a spot as the 94th most popular choice previously, the celestial-themed moniker Nova has vanished from the charts completely.
The BabyCentre’s latest rundown of top baby names reveals that traditional picks like Olivia and Muhammad remain steadfast favourites, but 2025 marks the disappearance of certain names, notably Nova.

Faye Mingo, Chief Marketing Officer at BabyCentre, remarked: “The top names for both boys and girls have remained largely consistent with last year’s picks, but a few notable trends have emerged. Surname-inspired names for boys like Hunter and Harrison are on the rise, and there’s a trend of girls’ names ending in ‘a,’ like favourites Olivia and Amelia.”
“It’s clear that while parents are embracing some fresh twists, the classic choices still hold strong, and parents are looking for a name with timeless appeal.”, reports the Mirror.
This news follows the Office for National Statistics (ONS) publishing its annual report last month, regarding the most chosen baby names in England and Wales.
Likewise, the popular name Lilly has been a steady choice for years, but its spelling has sparked a divide. The double L version has seen a decline, while the Lily spelling has surged in popularity.
