Bolton Wanderers issue statement over ‘utterly reprehensible’ social media post

Bolton Wanderers have condemned an “utterly reprehensible” social media post made by a supporter.

The abusive post, believed to make reference to Wanderers’ boss Ian Evatt, was directed at the club’s X account on Friday evening. It has since been reported to police, the League One club confirmed today (Sunday).

In a statement on its website issued this morning, the club emphasised that it had a “zero-tolerance policy for such behaviour”.

A spokesperson said: “Bolton Wanderers Football Club unequivocally condemns the recent post directed at our X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday evening.

“The content of this post is utterly reprehensible. The club has a zero-tolerance policy for such behaviour.

“This matter has been reported to Greater Manchester Police and the club will fully cooperate with any ensuing investigation.

“Bolton Wanderers Football Club is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all employees and our supporters, and will take all necessary measures to protect them from harm.”

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
