The Met Office has issued another weather warning as temperatures are expected to plummet this evening. The yellow warning for ice is in place across Greater Manchester from 5pm today (Tuesday) until 12pm tomorrow.
The alert covers all of the north of England, including Yorkshire and Lancashire, as well as Merseyside, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, North Wales and Cheshire. Forecasters have warned people to expect “icy stretches leading to some impacts to transport”.
“Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths,” the warning adds. “Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.”
The Met Office added: “Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.

“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
After a freezing week, the Met Office has warned that temperatures in Greater Manchester could ‘feel as cold as -7C’ over the coming days. On Tuesday night (January 7), the forecasters predict that temperatures in Ramsbottom could plummet to -5C. On Wednesday, despite sunnier and brisk conditions, it will be a chilly start in the morning, with -4C feeling as cold as -7C.
A UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) cold health warning remains in place until 12 pm on Sunday 12 January, which means elderly or vulnerable people are particularly at risk of illness or injury due to the cold temperature.
