Several road closures will cause disruption for Barking and Dagenham residents this month while major repair works are carried out, however one that’s been shut for weeks is set to reopen. While some road closures are taking place overnight, others will last for a couple of days and could cause traffic disruption for residents who might need to find an alternative route to get to their destination.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) has found all of the ongoing and planned road closures that are happening in January, according to one.network. Traffic users can expect delays while Longbridge Road in Barking is closed eastbound from the junction of Forterie Gardens to Goodmayes Lane so Cadent Gas can carry out emergency gas repair works. The road closure began last Thursday (January 2) and is expected to finish at 11.59pm on Friday (January 10).
Meanwhile Stratton Drive, between Longbridge Road and Cavendish Gardens, is also going to be closed until Friday while Essex and Suffolk Water carry out some urgent repair and maintenance works. Stratton Drive was closed from 1.30pm on Monday (January 6) but is due to open again at 11.59pm on Friday (January 10). Barking and Dagenham Council has said a signed diversion is in place and has asked people to avoid the area where possible.

From 10pm on Tuesday (January 7), Alfreds Way will be closed while Transport for London (TfL) carry out works in the area. It’s unclear what exactly TfL is working on, however the road closure is in place until 4am on Wednesday (January 8).
Freshwater Road in Dagenham is expected to remain closed to all vehicle users until Sunday, January 19 following the Spectrum Building fire which happened in August of last year. The road remains closed due to the ongoing demolition of the Spectrum Building, a mixed-used residential and commercial building which went up in flames during the early hours of August 26, 2024. In October 2024, the road opened up to pedestrians who are able to access Freshwater Road from Chadwell Heath Station and Selinas Lane. However Freshwater Road has been closed since the demolition began on December 2.
On Friday, January 31, Cranborne Road is expected to be shut from 9.30am to 4.30pm while Thames Water carry out some repair and maintenance works. Head over to the council’s website to keep up to date on road closures.
