Director Luca Guadagnino has got fans talking after he was seen leaving the Golden Globes early.
Famous for directing the likes of Call Me By Your Name and the more recent smash hit Queer, Guadagnino’s film Challengers – featuring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist – bagged only one award of its four nominations.
The movie’s sole victory was awarded for Trent Reznor’s original soundtrack. Lead actress Zendaya missed out on Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
Challengers itself was up for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, but lost to the musical thriller Emilia Pérez. Guadagnino was spotted saying goodbye to academy members before leaving early, and a clip of the daring deed has since circulated online.

Emilia Pérez received its fair share of nominations, with stars Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón nominated for Best Actor, though ultimately neither received the award. However, some fans were not convinced by the film’s accolade.
One viewer expressed frustration online, saying: “Oh Goddammit they gave Emilia Pérez a major award it’s starting I’m already beginning to feel a deep, deep rage.”

“I’d walk out too if people didn’t understand that Challengers is a masterpiece,” said another. Another joked: “He wanted to avoid the bottle neck, getting out of the parking lot.”
However, not all feedback was negative; a few argued that Challengers deserved to be overlooked, with one critic saying: “Let’s be honest, Challengers wasn’t that great.”
