Prince William and Kate Middleton to 'renew vows on second honeymoon' after torrid year

The last 12 months have seen Princess Kate face some heavy challenges, with health issues forcing her to step back from her royal work and public life for an extended period.

While the future Queen has finished her course of chemotherapy and tentatively returned to some official duties, she made it clear in September when she announced her treatment had been completed that her focus would remain on her recovery.

For Prince William, it’s been by his own admission a “brutal” year. Indeed, with both his wife and father, King Charles, undergoing cancer treatment, the future King has been forced into a balancing act between his family responsibilities and his royal duties.

Royal experts and commentators have noted repeatedly that William has kept his family, and the needs of his three children – Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six – as his top priority. Both William and Kate are said to be hands-on parents, preferring to do things like the daily school run themselves where possible, which is a markedly modern approach to parenting the three young royals.

Despite all the challenges the Wales family has faced over the last twelve months, there may well happier times on the horizon for in the form of a “romantic” getaway. As reported in The Sun, William has been planning a much-needed treat for Kate, and plans to take her away on a romantic trip, just the two of them, giving the couple some well-deserved alone time, something that the report claimed Kate values above all else.

“Wills is ever the romantic – Kate values their alone time, nothing is more special than having her prince to herself. So he’s planning a romantic getaway – just the two of them – Wills has set the wheels in motion to whisk Kate away,” a source was quoted as saying.

The couple may also reportedly be poised to take this opportunity to do something seriously touching – renew their wedding vows. This year will mark 14 years since the couple said ‘I do’ in front of a packed congregation of 1900 guests at Westminster Abbey – and an estimated 36 million who viewed the ceremony on TV.

The fairytale royal wedding saw Kate officially join the Royal Family’s ranks, but her relationship with William had been a source of fascination for royal fans since the pair met as undergraduates at the University of St. Andrews.

They lived together with friends while studying and endured a brief split in 2007, which experts have revealed left William pretty “lonely”, while Kate pushed through her heartbreak and filled up her time with parties and dates. They eventually settled down and married, reportedly honeymooning in the Seychelles. And William is reportedly set on their upcoming romantic getaway being something on a second honeymoon where they could even say ‘I do’ all over again.

“They want to go somewhere secluded – Wills has employed a trusted family friend in assisting with this very special private getaway to a place of extreme importance – Africa and the wildlife reserves are a love for them both. To have their wedding blessed there after 14 years would be really special,” the source claimed.

“This has been a tough year for Kate and Wills and a complete emotional rollercoaster. He’s confided to friends that everything has been thrown in their path, but he is proud of how they have weathered the storm.”
