Commuters are facing more disruption as the cold snap continues in Greater Manchester. Snow fell on the region again in the early hours of this morning (January 7).
The weather has left stunning scenes, but it has also added to travel disruption for those trying to get to work or school – while the region is still recovering from last week’s floods and the weekend’s heavy snow. Several roads have been closed due to the weather conditions.
The A555 Manchester Airport relief road is closed due to flooding again today, having been plagued by the problem since New Year’s Day amid the wintry start to 2025. Both the A57 Snake Pass and A628 Woodhead Pass are closed between Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire due to snow in the Peak District.
The A57 has also been closed at High Street West, in Glossop, due to flooding. In Saddleworth, the A635 has been closed between Greenfield and Holmfirth due to drifting snow.
In Trafford, Dobbinetts Lane is closed between Clay Lane and Floats Road, while Clay Lane is also closed between Whitecarr Lane and Canterbury Road. Transport for Greater Manchester says many smaller roads may also be affected by the weather.
Drivers are urged to take care on the roads. A yellow weather warning for snow and ice in Greater Manchester remains in force until 10am.
