A man from Merseyside has been charged with stalking Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas. Kyle Shaw, 37, appeared in South Sefton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 3, a spokesman for the courts service said.
The 37-year-old, from Birkenhead, is charged with stalking the 64-year-old TV star between August 31, 2017, and November 29, 2023, by sending her online messages. He has also been charged with possession of a quantity of cannabis.
Shaw did not enter any pleas and was given conditional bail ahead of his next hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on January 31. Shirley Ballas, originally from Wallasey, has been head judge on the BBC show since 2017 and spoke to the Mirror last year about alleged incidents of stalking.
Speaking about the precautions taken to protect her safety after it was alleged one person “lunged” at her in the past, she said: “So, you know, I always have George, the guy who’s driven me for the last five years, get out of the car first, always scanning. I wouldn’t say it’s the healthiest thing. You know, I like to be kind of like a free bird, but we’re coming into times now where you have to be more vigilant of yourself.”
