Greater Manchester snow LIVE updates as roads and schools closed with fresh weather warning issued

Wintry weather is causing disruption across Greater Manchester again after further snowfall overnight. Two major roads are among those closed across the region due to snow or flooding this morning (January 7).

The A555 Manchester Airport relief road and A57 Snake Pass are both closed due to the weather – while several smaller roads are also affected. Trains have also been delayed or cancelled due to a signalling issue at Manchester Airport and a lorry hitting a bridge in Patricroft, Salford.

A new ice warning has also been put in place by the Met Office. Coming into force at 5pm until 12pm tomorrow, all of Greater Manchester is covered by the Met Office alert, warning of transport delays and road closures due to ice.

A yellow Met Office weather warning for snow and ice was in force until 10am today. Manchester Airport closed its runways for a number of hours this morning due to snow.

All three terminals have since reopened, but passengers are being warned to expect delays. Amber flood alerts are in place for the Bollin and Mersey rivers near Manchester.

Oasis Academy Leesbrook, in Oldham, and Reddish Vale High School, in Stockport, are both fully closed. Flurries of sleet and snow are expected to fall on Greater Manchester throughout the day.
