The UK is bracing for the return of a 350-mile snow bomb this week with meteorologists confirming the exact timing for the onset of the flurries. The Met Office has issued warnings that a fresh snow system will impact regions stretching from Scotland’s northernmost point, including Orkney, right down to Hampshire in the south.
Weather models by WX Charts predict up to 10cm of snowfall, pinpointing 3pm on January 10 as the prime time for the heaviest impact. Snow depth projections reveal potential accumulations ranging from 25cm to 30cm across central and northwestern areas, which could amount to an impressive 12 inches, reports Birmingham Live.
According to the BBC Weather outlook for January 10 to January 12, it says: “Showers will become more confined to northern Scotland and exposed coastal areas from Tuesday to Thursday as north-westerly breezes ease, with sheltered areas becoming mostly dry and sunnier. Some sharp frosts can be expected overnight.”
As the week progresses, it adds: “High pressure should start to build from Friday onwards, making much of the UK drier, although we need to watch out for a front sliding south-eastwards later on Thursday or Friday that might threaten some southern regions with a quick spell of rain or wet snow.”
Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast suggests: “Some rain could try to nudge in from the Atlantic at the weekend, but conditions should become milder. That is a bit uncertain, though, and if high pressure settles a bit farther north, it could continue to draw in colder air, so that will be something to monitor through the week.”
“Frequent snow showers will still continue to develop across parts away from the south of the UK and Ireland during this working week, and although anywhere could see a passing one, they will be more likely in coastal areas and parts of Wales in addition to some further heavier snow showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland/Ireland,” stated James Madden of Exacta Weather.
